1930's to 1940's UK Vintage Glamour

The end of the war was cause for celebration. Simple construction, detailed fabrics & sheers over slips. Hemlines rose and fell as the flapper era came and went. Silk velvets, silk satins, rayons & nylons - designers explored new cuts & new materials. Zippers took over from hook & eye and shoulder pads became fashionable from mid 30's to 40's. Everyone aspired to the looks of the sirens of the silver screen as Hollywood provided an escape from the effects of the depression.

Fabulous 1930's- 40's silk velvet gown

Yet another spectacular silk velvet gown straight from the 1930's silver screen. Flattering plunging bust and dipped back. It is in, typical of the day, bias cut so the back drops elegantly to the floor. The cap sleeves are netted with gold embroidered flowers. Silk velvet like this is simply unobtainable today. The way the light catches it, the depth of black and the way it plays with gravity makes it another irresistible, timeless beauty.

Condition:

Absolutely beautiful condition. The netting on the sleeves has some holes but is barely noticable and could be mended sympathetically on request

1930's Black lace dress

incredible 1930's black lace gown in exceptional condition. Shown here without a slip to emphasise it's pattern and design. The front bodice is essentially the same as the back, though one neckline is lower. The skirt is panelled and bias cut to give flare and fullness. It is a fun dress to play with as the look can completely change depending on the colour slip worn underneath.

Condition:

The lace work is in excellent condition and still strong. Small repair made along 2 seams. A truly stunning 30's gown to add to the collection

1930's - 1940's copper silk velvet & lace gown

This dress is made of the most delicate soft lace. Shown here without a slip to catch a glimpse of the design. Works well with a black or copper slip. The lace is actually dual tones. The bodice is a rust colour and the dress/skirt a matt brown. A stunning autumn gown.

Condition:

In excellent condition. The silk velvet is excellent, without holes or marks.Although delicate, the lace is still strong. Some damage to shoulders, though covered by velvet

1930's - 1940's green velvet & cream satin gown

This is another of the gowns we aquired from the Royal Opera House London. The fabric used is 1930's 40's heavy satin and devinely soft silk chiffon for the sleeves. The bottle green velvet outer jacket is constructed to be part of the dress and though looks to be separate, is not. The buttons are original.

Royal opera house London

bias cut medieval style dress

Another acquisition from the Royal opera house and made for the stage with a definite medieval feel. Obviously needs a slip, but this dress is made very well by professional costumiers. It is a flattering cut for a slim size 8

Excellent no issues. Very strong lace
